The Health and Safety Representative
The HSR where I work is an absolute moron.
For the third day in a row, I've complained to him about the putrid smell of this nasty dumpster. He then tells me the process used by waste management for cleaning out the dumpster. I just stand there and look at him. He has no idea what he is talking about, he's making it up as he goes along.
So, I say 'well, I know someone who works there, and he tells me a different story.'
He then goes on to correct himself and states 'that's possible, maybe they do.' I'm outraged now, because he has just wasted 5 minutes of my time with his useless drivel.
I then say 'so, what your telling me then, is you really have no idea what their actual process is.' I'm looking him right in the eye. Not backing down until he admits he made it all up.
'Well, every year we go to the dump and drop stuff off at least once. Now, I've never seen anything but they do have a permanent structure.......' I raise my eyebrows in disbelief. What a complete moron. I quit listening. He's basing his expert opinion on a yearly trip to the dump.
At the end of the conversation, his suggestion was to have everyone wear a paper mask. What an asshole!

how can such incompetant people get and keep their jobs? Especially when good people have harder times?

I don't know Bobby, but I totally agree. I ended up going to the production control manager. I'm not sure how I do it, but I have the gift of words. I can seem nice and friendly and cheerful and rip you to shreds at the same time. I just told him that something needed to be done immediately for the receiving team or they were going to mutiny on me. I did say 'I'm sure you wouldn't want to park your desk there any more then they do. Am I right?' Needless to say, within an hour he was back at my desk telling the the maintenance guys were mixing up a neutralizing mixture to spray in the dumpster. That stuff worked like a charm to.
